Joel Koppleman

Joel Koppelman
Senior Vice President and General Manager of Oracle Primavera Global Business Unit (GBU)

Joel Koppelman was a co-founder and the CEO of Primavera Systems for 25 years until its acquisition by Oracle. The Primavera GBU continues to focus on project, program and portfolio management helping customers to plan, execute and control the projects that grow their enterprise and advance their business strategy. Primavera solutions are used globally by project-centric organizations whose success requires on-time, on-budget and on-scope delivery making the best use of talented and scarce resources.

As a GBU within Oracle, Primavera is now able to deliver Enterprise Project Portfolio Management solutions that tightly integrate with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions including Oracle’s eBusiness Suite, JD Edwards Enterprise One and PeopleSoft, as well as SAP R/3.

Mr. Koppelman co-authored with Quentin Fleming the Project Management Institute (PMI) best seller “Earned Value Project Management”, now in its third edition. Together they have written dozens of articles published in many well known business publications including the Harvard Business Review. He was elected to the Drexel University “100” and has received the prestigious “Award of Merit” from AACE and the “Distinguished Contributor Award” from PMI. In 2008, Mr. Koppelman was selected as “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Drexel University.

Mr. Koppelman holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Drexel University and MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has two daughters and in his spare time is a passionate sculptor and an aspiring sailor.

Brian Evans is a Principal in MCR’s Project Solution Group. The group is responsible for Integrated Program Management support across MCR. Mr. Evans is responsible for scheduling competency throughout MCR. He has over 20 years of Program Management experience on a variety of Federal programs. During that time he has been involved in the planning, budgeting, and execution of a variety of major DOD Weapons Systems, and Federal Civilian IT programs.  During his career, he has served a variety of roles including deputy program manager, project manager, program control chief, business analyst, scheduler, risk manager, and contract manager.

 
Bruce Stephan

Mr. Bruce Stephan, PE, PMP has thirty years experience performing a variety of systems implementations, construction management and claims analysis functions. He holds a juris doctorate degree, a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, and is a certified PMP and a licensed professional engineer in New York and New Jersey. Since 1998, he redefined business processes and/or implemented Primavera Scheduling and Cost Control systems for the Port Authority of NY & NJ, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, PSE&G and King County WA. He currently is a Regional Construction Manager in charge of $300M of construction on the SFPUC’s $4B Water System Improvement Program, where he helps define program wide procedures and systems.

Mr. Stephan is the Managing Principal in charge of the Western Region for PMA’ Consultants LLC, a 200-person project management consulting firm founded in 1971.

Carlos Nazario has over 10 years of experience in project and construction management. He has significant project controls experience and has excelled at assisting clients develop integrated schedules in the fields of residential and commercial development, healthcare, transit systems and other public infrastructure. Currently Mr. Nazario is supporting BP’s Integrated Supply and Trading Division as Schedule Manager for the BrightLights relocation project in Chicago, IL. Mr. Nazario earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and a MS in Project Management from Northwestern University.

Chris Carson is Corporate Director of Project Controls for Alpha Corporation, a professional engineering/construction firm, managing a team of project controls professionals, providing CM services in scheduling, schedule analysis, claims avoidance, dispute resolution, and estimating. He is a CMAA Certified Construction Manager (CCM), and an AACEi Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP). Presenting at CMAA, AACE, DBIA, and PMI College of Scheduling conferences, Mr. Carson received a 2009 College of Scheduling award for “Significant Contributions to the Scheduling Industry”, earned “Best Paper in the Scheduling Track” at the 2006 AACEi national conference, and received the “Chairman’s Award” by CMAA in 2006. Mr. Carson is also Managing Director for the PMI College of Scheduling SEI project, writing Best Practices and Guidelines for Scheduling and Schedule Impact Analysis, and was just elected Vice President for SEI for the College.

Colin is a Chemical Engineering Graduate of The University of Melbourne and was Chairman of the Victorian Primavera Users Group from 1997 to 2009.

David Gorski
Senior Project Manager / Chief Project Scheduler, Gannett Fleming, Inc

David Gorski is a Project Manager/Chief Project Scheduler for Gannett Fleming Inc., a graduate of Penn State, holds an EIT in Pennsylvania and a member of PMICOS since 1995. For 7 years, Mr. Gorski was employed by the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation; was involved in the Agency’s light rail and commuter rail programs. Presently with Gannett Fleming he has been involved in construction oversight, mass transit planning/design, construction estimating/scheduling, design project planning, scheduling and maintenance. Mr. Gorski is presently working with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the statewide project scheduling program. Mr. Gorski has authored papers on transit support facility requirements for SMART and contributed in PennDOT’s Publication 352, Estimating Manual and Publication 615, – Scheduling Manual Operating Procedures for Design Schedules using Open Plan / WelcomHome.

Gui Ponce de Leon

Dr. Gui Ponce de Leon, is recognized as one of our nation’s foremost planning and scheduling experts. He has pioneered a number of project scheduling innovations and has written widely on the use of CPM in construction contracts and schedule/delay/acceleration analysis. Dr. Gui’s broad professional experience includes executive and senior roles as investor’s developer, program manager and construction manager.

Starting with his doctoral work, Dr. Gui’s 40 year career in project management is still going strong. His Graphical Path Method (GPM®) is aimed at revolutionizing planning and scheduling at a level not seen since the advent of critical path methods in the 1950’s. Dr. Gui earned his Ph. D. from the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Michigan. Following graduation, Dr. Gui served as adjunct professor in the graduate construction management program from 1973-1989.

Previous positions held were with KBR, Stone & Webster, and the Mexican Ministry of Water Resources.

Gabe holds a degree in MS Construction Management from Ohio State University and a BS Civil Engineering from Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua. Born in LA and grew up in Southern California.

Jacqueline Nevils

Jacqui Nevils is a Senior Project Manager in Raytheon’s Corporate Information Technology department. She is currently an Enterprise IT Lead for the Product Data Management (PDM) program office, an enterprise-wide common PDM solution affecting 35,000 users worldwide. Previously, Jacqui was a Senior Electrical Engineer for Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems. Jacqui focused on developing a web application to ease the collection, validation and storage of engineering data.

Prior to Raytheon, Jacqui worked as an independent IT consultant specializing in strategic planning and management of high visibility/high dollar technology initiatives. Jacqui also served eight years in the US Air Force.

Jacqui graduated with honors from Tufts University with a BSEE. She also owns a Master’s of Science in Information Systems from Northeastern University.

Lev Virine has more than 20 years of experience as a structural engineer, software developer, and project manager. In the past 10 years he has been involved in a number of major projects performed by Fortune 500 companies and government agencies to establish effective decision analysis and risk management processes as well as to conduct risk analyses of complex projects. Lev’s current research interests include the application of decision analysis and risk management to project management. He writes and speaks to conferences around the world on project decision analysis, including the psychology of judgment and decision-making, modeling of business processes, and risk management. Groff is a Senior Counsel in the Washington, D.C. offices of the international law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.  For the past 25 years, his practice has been devoted to representing parties in the construction and government contract industry.  He is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Project Management Program, where he teaches graduate courses on the legal aspects of design, engineering and construction.  He is a co-author of Construction Scheduling:  Preparation, Liability, and Claims (3rd Ed. 2010) published by Aspen Publishers. Michelle Colodzin

Consulting Group, Ms. Michelle Colodzin is a PMP and PMI-SP certified project manager with over twenty years of experience in IT program and project management in the public and private sectors. Ms. Colodzin established and managed the IT Mergers and Acquisitions Programs for Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. In this role she developed project management and project scheduling processes, procedures, templates and tools that were used by her project managers located around the world. Ms. Colodzin is recognized as an expert in the area of project scheduling and was twice selected by PMI to contribute and review questions for PMI’s scheduling certification exam.

Mike is currently Chair for the update of the PMI Practice Standard for Scheduling and previously was the Deputy Project Manager for the 1st Edition.

Over 25 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry. Experience ranges from estimating duties and pre-project planning at the Home Office to Project Director over large, complex projects. Experienced in the overall responsibility of construction of multiple power and industrial facilities. Responsibilities range from conversion of a major steel facility to support mini mill operations to the execution responsibility a design-build generating station.

The roles as Project Director include multiple, large EPC projects, addressing over $2 Billion of concurrent work. A portion of this was as the Simple Cycle Program Manager over 9 concurrent projects and 24 large frame turbine units. The projects have included work with multinational companies and in international project work.

Pradip Mehta is serving as the current President of PMICOS. He is also currently the Manager, of Project Controls for AECOM, a global design and program management conglomerate. He has more than 30 years of extensive and diversified experience in implementing project control processes and systems at the corporate and large program levels for both owner and contractor organizations. His broad based expertise lies in the transportation, environmental and energy Industries. Pradip has been nationally recognized as an expert in implementing project controls best practices and has spoken and written extensively on this subject. Prior to joining AECOM, he served as a Vice President of construction consulting and dispute resolution practice at Marsh USA, in Princeton, NJ.

Pradip holds a Masters in Construction Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology..He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), a certified Cost Engineer (CCE), a certified Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP), a certified Earned Value Professional (EVP) and a certified Risk Management professional (RMP). Mr. Dua Has worked in the PM field for the past 55 years developing software, planning and scheduling projects. 31 years with UK Computer Company ICL included two years seconded to Kelly and Walker (the original authors of CPM), 2 years seconded to Booze Allen Hamilton on POLARIS and nuclear submarine construction. Has been a project Manager and Director inn over ten countries.

Co-author of all PM software ICL wrote 1958 and 1984, plus early development of EVPM. From 60's to now worked many major projects in Australia and Worldwide.

Richard E. Sappé is the E&C Industry Strategist for Oracle’s Primavera Global Business Unit. Oracle’s Primavera solutions are used by general contractors, construction managers, design firms and subcontractors as well as public and private owners to manage the entire capital facility project lifecycle to ensure capital projects are delivered on-time and on-budget. Mr. Sappé combines experience from both the professional and the technology side of the AEC Industry. Mr. Sappé writes papers and articles for publication on the intersection of technology and the AEC industry, and frequently speaks at AEC industry events. Before Oracle|Primavera, Mr. Sappé worked for Bentley Systems, Inc. and Haestad Methods, Inc., developers of engineering & design and analysis applications. Prior to that, Mr. Sappé served as a project manager for an environmental engineering firm.

Mr. Sappé earned a Masters of Environmental Management degree from Yale University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Ursinus College.

Robert Richards, Ph.D. is a Principal Investigator and Project Manager at Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. Prior to joining Stottler Henke in 1999, Dr. Richards’ work included Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Process Engineering at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center; this work included project scheduling/management. Since joining Stottler Henke, he has been involved in projects that dealt with Critical Chain project management software design & development, training system development including intelligent tutoring systems, and decision support.
